Entry Three

They wanted us to go outside.  The worst experiences of my life have nearly all been beyond the walls of my city.  Each time I have left the warm embrace of London it has ended in disaster, the first time was a badly prepared expedition led by a mad scientist, 27 of us left, only I returned.  The second time, oh god I still can't bare to think of that nightmare - despite the planning, the equipment, and the hand picked help it ended in slaughter with only two of us returning, although only one of use was truly "whole".

Take a train down the line to rescue this scientist and his formula, the answer to all our prayers, a cure for the  plague they told us.  You will be handsomely rewarded for your efforts and we will support you with all of the equipment you could need.  All my senses screamed "No" but the others would not listen, the promise of research grants and just cold hard cash was too much for them, only I knew better.  With Victor badly damaged and Doc Verne looking after him we were down a few men so we hired a couple of extra hands in Rick and Nathan and stocked up on ammo and weapons.  I may have had a few drinks, but what the hell.

The tracks had been ripped up and the train before us had crashed, everyone was dead.  We found the formula but the scientist was a corpse.  We also found a bunch of other corpses working in unison under the control of something else and they started to chuck coal at us.  I know it doesn't sound like much but when you get hit by 30 - 40 pieces at a time it will take you down pretty quick.  We made it back to the train and started towards London only to find that the points had been sabotaged and there was debris on the line.  We could fix the damage but not without getting eaten by the stenches.  Seeing no other hope Nathan drank some "formula" and dived out of the carriage.  He lay waste to the stenches and found big daddy stench and killed him too, allowing us to repair the points and clear the tracks. Unfortunately by then it was dark and the vamps were out.  They attacked us and we fought them back but one grabbed the scaly from under the train, I drew a bead on him but in his blind panic the kid lashed out with his lantern which went out having done no damage and the kid was gone.

We finally got back and Nathan and Rick took their money and retired.  To be fair it's a pretty good trip for me only 1 dead and 2 broken a new record, maybe they will stop calling me body-count, doubt it though...
